ABOUT
PT. Belengkong Mineral Resources (BMR) was founded in June 2007 as a private-owned company that works in operations and support, construction, product processing and transportation related to mining activities. Since its foundation, BMR aimed to be a reputable, nationwide mining company.
In 2008, BMR pursued a coal mining opportunity in Paser, East Kalimantan. Kalimantan accounts for more than 90% of the country coal production. East Kalimantan was the largest producer among the provinces, which produced 127 million ton in 2009. In addition, Kalimantan has a strategic location because it is close to fast emerging markets in Asia, notably China and India, making it competitive to other suppliers such as Australia.
BMR started Paser site exploration in 2008, and then started mining operations in 2009. From 2009 to March 2012, the Company has already added over 40 heavy equipment units for this Paser project. Within the period, BMR has moved over 7 million Bank Cubic Meter (BCM) of overburden (OB) and mined 534,000 ton coal.
In 2011, BMR embarked on its first venture in the iron ore industry as mining contractor in Lowan, East Kalimantan. BMR developed infrastructure and production facilities including hauling road and magnetic separator to remove fine contaminant particles in the produced material. BMR had wide-ranging work in Lowan project from construction, mining operation, material processing, to shipment of material.
Following the coal deposit depletion in Paser, BMR took mining contracting business as an expanding opportunity in early 2012. The concession holder is PT. Sebuku Iron Lateritic Ores (SILO), the pioneer in iron ore mining in Indonesia and the only domestic supplier for iron ores/ raw material for PT. Krakatau Steel. BMR was hired by SILO as a contractor for full coring exploration, loading and hauling lateritic iron ores, as well as heavy equipment renter in Sebuku Island, South Kalimantan. BMR then has been working for SILO since May 2012 until now.
In Sebuku, BMR has loaded and hauled over 2 million wet metric tons (WMT) of raw iron ore within 7 months from June to December 2012. The production surpassed the contract agreement of 100,000 ton/ month by 190% on a monthly average. For the year 2013, BMR has expanded to reach 7.5 million WMT of iron ore for loading and hauling from mining pits. Added with the loading and hauling from stockpile for material shipping, the total of material moving in 2013 is targeted at 12.5 million WMT iron ore.
In February 2013, PT. Ika Trio Sentosa (ITS), a subsidiary company of SILO, hired BMR as a contractor in ITS’s concession in Tanjung Batu, South Kalimantan. The contract covers comprehensive work from site preparation to the production. Regarding site preparation, BMR is contracted for exploration and infrastructure construction which include hauling road, stockpile, and special port. The loading and haulage production is targeted at 5 million WMT iron ores within a year period. The production is aimed to begin in December 2013.
In parallel to the massive increase of production, BMR took the initiative to apply Sistem Manajemen Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (SMK3), or Health and Occupational Safety Management System. The Company’s commitment to enter the modern and industrialized era with a high demand of productivity and quality not only aims for increased revenue and profit, but also for continuous development in handling internal business processes, increasing performance and efficiency, and creating a greener, safer and healthier workplace. BMR plans to achieve the health and safety management system standardized to the international standards OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 and the national standard PP 50/2012 by early 2014.
BMR has extensive experience in open-pit mining operations for coal and iron ore in Kalimantan. BMR continues to improve its mining operations to become a major player in Indonesia mining industry through professionalism and care to employees, local community, and environment.
